LR052756PTO – Remanufactured LT230 Transfer Box with PTO – Defender 2.4 & 2.2 TDCi Puma – 2007–2016 – 1.2:1 Ratio

A remanufactured LT230 transfer box with PTO for Land Rover Defender Puma/TDCi models from 2007–2016.

This is the 1.211:1 high-range ratio transfer box used on Defender TDCi models and is supplied as a remanufactured exchange unit.

Vehicle Fitment

Suitable for:

  • Land Rover Defender 90 – 2007–2016

  • Land Rover Defender 110 – 2007–2016

  • Land Rover Defender 130 – 2007–2016

  • 2.4 TDCi Puma engine

  • 2.2 TDCi Puma engine

What Does the Transfer Box Do?

The LT230 transfer box sits behind the Defender's main gearbox and distributes drive to the front and rear axles.

It also provides the Defender's:

  • High and low range gearing

  • Permanent four-wheel drive

  • Lockable centre differential

This unit uses the 1.211:1 high-range ratio fitted to TDCi/Puma Defender models.

The 1.2:1 figure refers to the high-range gearing, rather than the transfer box's low-range ratio.

What Does PTO Mean?

PTO stands for Power Take-Off.

A PTO system allows the transfer box to provide mechanical drive for auxiliary equipment. On an LT230 this can be used to power equipment such as a hydraulic pump or winch.

This is the PTO version of our remanufactured Defender Puma transfer box.

If your Defender does not require PTO drive, see our LR052756 remanufactured transfer box without PTO.

Why Might a Transfer Box Need Replacing?

The LT230 is a strong and well-proven transfer box, but internal components can wear after high mileage or prolonged heavy use.

Depending on the nature of the fault, possible signs of transfer-box wear can include:

  • Excessive drivetrain backlash or clunking

  • Whining, rumbling or other transmission noise

  • Excessive play within the driveline

  • Oil leakage

  • Problems selecting or operating high/low range or differential lock

Several other components in the Defender drivetrain can produce similar symptoms, so the cause of the fault should be correctly diagnosed before replacing the transfer box.

Remanufactured Exchange Unit

This is a remanufactured exchange transfer box.

A refundable surcharge is added to the purchase price to ensure that your old transfer box is returned for future reconditioning.

The surcharge is currently £255.00 and is refunded when your old unit is:

  • Returned to LR Centre within 6 weeks of purchase

  • Complete and in a condition suitable for reconditioning

If you are unsure whether your existing transfer box will be acceptable as an exchange unit, please contact us before ordering.

Installation

Replacement of a complete transfer box is a substantial transmission job and should be carried out by a suitably experienced technician.

The transfer box must be filled with the correct lubricant to the correct level as part of installation, and the condition of associated transmission components should be checked while the unit is removed.
