DA1747BLACK – Wright Off Road Acoustic Mat System – Black – Defender Puma 2.4 & 2.2 TDCi – 2007–2016
The Wright Off Road acoustic mat system is a heavy-duty moulded sound-deadening system designed specifically for Land Rover Defender Puma/TDCi models from 2007–2016.
Manufactured from dense cast polyurethane, the system is designed to substantially reduce the amount of engine, gearbox, drivetrain and road noise entering the Defender cabin while also helping to reduce resonance through the vehicle’s metal floor and body panels.
Unlike a conventional carpet or lightweight rubber floor mat, the Wright Off Road system forms a substantial secondary floor surface, combining acoustic insulation with a tough, durable and easy-to-clean interior finish.
Vehicle Fitment
Suitable for:
-
Land Rover Defender 90 – 2.4 TDCi Puma – 2007–2011
-
Land Rover Defender 110 – 2.4 TDCi Puma – 2007–2011
-
Land Rover Defender 130 – 2.4 TDCi Puma – 2007–2011
-
Land Rover Defender 90 – 2.2 TDCi Puma – 2012–2016
-
Land Rover Defender 110 – 2.2 TDCi Puma – 2012–2016
-
Land Rover Defender 130 – 2.2 TDCi Puma – 2012–2016
This version is moulded specifically for the later Puma/TDCi Defender cabin and transmission-tunnel layout.
For earlier Defender models, alternative Wright Off Road acoustic mat systems are available for the LT77 and R380 transmission layouts.
Why Fit a Wright Off Road Acoustic Mat System?
Traditional Defenders transmit a considerable amount of mechanical and road noise through the:
-
transmission tunnel
-
footwells
-
floor panels
-
bulkhead
-
seat-box area
The dense polyurethane construction acts as a substantial barrier between these sources of noise and the cabin.
The system also helps reduce panel reverberation and provides additional thermal insulation between the drivetrain, exterior environment and vehicle interior.
Features
Reduces cabin noise
The complete moulded system provides substantial acoustic insulation without the need to rely on separate engine or gearbox blankets.
Heavy-duty construction
The dense cast polyurethane provides a hard-wearing surface designed to withstand constant everyday use.
Easy to fit and remove
The system does not require permanent glueing in place and can be removed or transferred to another compatible vehicle.
Easy to clean
The polyurethane surface is simple to wash and can be hosed clean when required.
Thermal insulation
As well as reducing noise, the system helps insulate the cabin against heat entering through the transmission tunnel and surrounding panels.
Will not rot or absorb water
Unlike felt or conventional carpet insulation, the polyurethane material itself will not rot or retain water.
Resistant to everyday contaminants
The material is resistant to fuel, oil, water and sunlight.
Fire retardant
Recyclable
How Does the System Reduce Noise?
The effectiveness of the Wright Off Road system comes primarily from the mass of the dense polyurethane barrier.
Rather than using a thin layer of lightweight sound-deadening material, the system spreads a substantial acoustic barrier across the major floor and transmission areas of the Defender cabin.
Closed-cell foam is also used beneath areas such as the footwells and floor panels. This helps reduce the overall weight of the moulding and provides additional comfort underfoot, although the dense polyurethane itself provides the majority of the acoustic insulation.
It is not possible to quote one universal decibel reduction because every Defender is different. Engine condition, drivetrain, tyres, existing trim and other modifications will all influence the final result.
Can the Mat System Trap Water?
Any floor covering can trap a small amount of moisture or condensation against the Defender’s metal floor.
One advantage of the Wright Off Road system is that the polyurethane itself does not absorb or retain water like traditional felt or carpet insulation.
Because the system creates a durable removable secondary surface, the underlying metal floor can also be appropriately rustproofed or protected before installation.
Can I Still Access the Gearbox and Transmission Tunnel?
Yes.
The system is designed to remain removable rather than being permanently bonded to the vehicle.
If access to the gearbox or transmission tunnel is required, the relevant sections can be removed and subsequently refitted.
What If the Mat Arrives Slightly Distorted?
Dense polyurethane mouldings can occasionally become slightly distorted during storage or transportation.
In most cases the material will naturally return towards its original moulded shape over time. Gentle warming can help speed up this process.
