This PTU, or Power Transfer Unit, transfers power from the front wheels to the rear wheels on Land Rover Freelander 2, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque Mk1 (specifically for For 2.2 Diesel and 3.2 Petrol).
The PTU is responsible for adding traction when needed, especially when driving on slippery or uneven surfaces. It transfers power from the front wheels to the rear wheels as needed, which help to improve the Land Rover/Range Rover's stability and traction.
The Power Transfer Unit is an important component and it is important to keep it well-maintained thus ensuring the vehicle is able to function properly. If you are experiencing problems with your PTU, it is a good idea to have it checked by a mechanic as soon as possible to diagnose and fix any issues - most issues cannot be tweaked as a full unit is required.
Our units are reconditioned by the same company that perform Land Rover's genuine reconditioning - therefore quality is assured.
These Units have had the following process done in the reconditioning process:
Fully Stripped
Cleaned in Parafin to rid of contaminents
Washed in hot degreaser
Blast machined to clean Aluminium
Torrent machined in a hot wash again to clean of contaminents
All OEM branded seals and bearings used on re-build
New crush spacer and pinion nut fitted
Re-built to OEM spec
