The troublesome Crankshaft Damper on the Defender and Discovery TD5 are usually very expensive. LR Centre have managed to source great quality replacement parts for a fraction of the retail price.
The Crankshaft Damper on the TD5 is made up of several different parts bonded together with a very strong rubber. Over time and with large mileage you will find the rubber will start to come away. The initial signs for this are if you have a squak coming from the front end just after you turn the engine off. This can then turn into a knocking sound. It's worth noting that part number ERR5992, front crank oil seal, is probably best to be changed at the same time as it is disturbed whilst doing the job.
